GFK Temax results for Romania, Q1 2019

Bucharest, May 2019 – With a 700 mn Euro value in Q1 2019, the Romanian Technical Consumer Goods (TCG) market decreased by 1.7% versus same period a year ago. There are many products contributing to this evolution, but the main decrease continues to come from the telecom and IT categories, which are responsible for 43% and 14%, respectively, from the total market value in the first three months of this year. Major Domestic Appliances (18% of total market value), saw a double digit increase of 11,2%, up to 128 mn Euro. Consumer Electronics, responsible for 15% of TCG market this quarter, has a slightly decreasing evolution, of -0.7%, to 106 mn Euro.  Severe drop also for Information Technology sector, -9.8%, to a value of 101 mn Euro in Q1 2019. With a contribution of 7% to the total market value comes Small Domestic Appliances sec-tor which had a good evolution of +3.9%, to reach 52 mn Euro this first quarter.  Office Equipment and Photo sectors, each representing a merely 1% importance, marked negative evolutions of -4.5% (8 mn Euro) and -11.3% respectively (4 mn Euro). Let’s see details for each sector. Telecommunication market includes smart & mobile phones, phablets (smartphones with display size >5.6 inch) headsets and core wearables. The product category that drags down the entire sector evolution is mobile phones, with a 74.4% decrease in sales compared to Q1 2018, up to 53 mn Euro.  On the other hand, the phablets category still enjoys crazy growing rates of 146.5%, to reach 231 mn Euro in Q1 2019. Very good evolutions for headsets also, +17.3 % up to 8 mn Euro and for core wearables also, +52.3%, to a similar value of 8 mn Euro. Telecom sector decreased by 4.5%, down to 301 mn Euro, while the second biggest sector,
