Nuremberg, 6. February 2020 – Various promotional activities in November and December as well as Christmas Season have a positive effect on the German market for technical consumer: The turnover in the fourth quarter lies +2,6 percent above previous year’s and has an impact on the positive result in the total year 2019 (+1,2 percent). Across categories a variety of sectors and product groups experience a high demand in the fourth quarter which was not equally the case throughout the year.
Small Domestic appliances show the highest growth in turnover which is based on a couple of product fields like personal care appliances (particularly hair care) kitchen appliances, kitchen appliances as well as home cleaning devices. The market for Major Domestic Appliances shows growth across categories as well – there is hardly any product group that does not shows an uplift in sales in Q4/2019 as well as in the total year 2019. The sector Information Technology keeps pace with and shows a significant growth in turnover in the fourth quarter which is generated by increasing sales with PC hardware and IT peripherals. Particularly the higher demand for smartphones in Q4/2019 has a positive impact on Telecommunication since they which was not the case in the previous quarters.
Conversely, Consumer Electronics and Photography as well as Office Equipment and Consumables remain TCG’s problem child due to decreasing sales on sector level in the fourth quarter each.
