Nuremberg, 6. May 2020 – The German market for technical consumer goods is slightly positive in the first quarter 2020 on a year-on-year comparison. In terms of revenue, the trend was +0.3 percent. Probably driven by stockpiling due to the up-coming Corona-Crisis Major Domestic Appliances showed a solid growth, esp. in Freezers and Cooling devices. Getting prepared to work from home seems to have led consumers to purchase more Telecommunication devices and IT equipment. Both sectors grew compared to the previous year with Smartphones, Mobile Head-sets, Desktop computers/AIOs, Portable computers as well as Visual Cams being the winning categories. Growth of Small Domestic appliances is slowing down, but is still positive esp. driven by Hairstylers, Food Processors, Vacuum Cleaners and Hot Beverage Makers. Consumer Electronics suffer as consumers spent less on Set-Top-Boxes, Action Cams, Video Players Recorders and even Bluetooth Speak-ers and Soundbars. Only Turnover with OLED TV-appliances is still on the rise.
